Address and phone number

This week we were learning about our address and phone numbers. Having the kids have a visual, as well as a craft was a great idea. I also had some other "learning" hidden within! 

First we did our address. The kids got to colour all the SHAPES it takes to make a house. So, we were doing a shapes theme as well! 

I drew out all of the shapes onto a piece of paper. Got some glue, scissors and crayons for everyone to use. 

Then the kids coloured all of their shapes. After they were done colouring they wrote their address on the house. The older kids cut their shapes out, and I helped the younger ones. After the shapes were cut out, we glued them together on another piece of paper. 

After that we talked about our house, and our address throughout the day! 

Today we talked about our phone numbers. What kid doesn't like pretending to be on the phone. So, I decided that we should make our own phones. 

First I drew out the phones (we have iphones, so we used that!). I drew a front and back for each child. Then cut out a piece of cardboard the same size as the papers. (yes, these ones are to scale!). 

Then, as the kids sat at the table, I asked them to read out their phone number, while looking at their "phone". 

After that we coloured both pieces of paper. 

And then glued them to the cardboard. 

And now, they have their own phones to play with and practice their phone numbers! (numbers are written on the paper, just taken out for the blog!)

Paper bag Penguins

So, continuing with our Penguin theme this week, we made Paper bag Penguins the other day. The kids LOVED making this easy craft, and had an even better time playing with them!

First I cut the strips of paper that we needed to cover the bag, and cut out a big white circle for the belly, and two smaller ones for eyes. I also cut a triangle for the beak, and some feet!

The kids started by gluing the head and body on- the black strips. Then glued on the white circle for the belly. 

After that they glued on the beak, and the eyes- which they coloured before. And finally the feet! 

After they dried the kids put on a wonderful puppet show! 

Baby, Its cold outside

To celebrate the first snow fall, we talked about snowmen today. We started the day off with snowmen pancakes. They are really easy, make the snowman shape out of the pancake mix while on the griddle. Then add some chocolate chips (or raisins) before you flip it the first time. Put on the plate and add marshmallows for snow underneath, I added whipped cream snowflakes on the sides. You can also have bacon for a scarf or arms- but the kids didn't want that. 

 For Craft today, we made "baby, it's cold outside" cards. I started with the shapes all cut out. I also gathered glue, and sparkle paint. 

 The kids glued the circles on, in size order- biggest on the bottom, smallest on the top. Then added a scarf and hat. 

 Once it was all glued on, they painted on some "snow" with the sparkle paint. 

a star filled sky

Today we were playing with glitter glue. So, we decided to make a star filled sky. And there is no better place to watch the stars then on a camping trip.

I cut out shapes that you would see on a camping trip- triangle trees and tent, rectangle tree trunks, circle moon, stars, and I did do tear drops to put together for a fire- but we forgot to use them! Then I got the kids all black paper, glue, and glitter glue (to spread it around more we used a paint brush!)


The kids had a great time gluing their shapes on the paper to make a camp scene. With the younger ones, you can put glue all over the page and let them put the pieces on themselves!


Then have them squirt the glitter glue on (or if you are brave, apply the real glitter). After putting globs of glitter glue on, the kids spread it around with the paint brush!


After everything dries, you are left with a beautiful night sky to star gaze!
