3-D heart pictures

This was a fun, and messy craft! The kids had a great time, but it does take some time to get ready! If you have older kids that can help, that would be great, they would really enjoy making the 3-D hearts.

It took me awhile to get the stuff ready to make this craft. I had to cut strips of paper, then staple the top, flip and staple the bottom- forming hearts. I originally was going to do a few hearts in one, but it was taking awhile! Then, I added some powdered paint to some white glue, and cut the cardboard backing for the pictures! That is pretty much all you need!

Then, I let the kids go crazy with the glue! You will need lots of it, and this craft will take a while to dry! We poured a pile of glue onto each backing (used cardboard! The stronger the better!). Then, they used the glue sticks to spread it around. By the time we were done, there was glue all over the place- but it was fun! (and it all washes off!)

Then, they placed their hearts onto their lake of glue!

These have been sitting in the sun on the table for about 3 hours and they are not dry yet, so plan on leaving them in the same spot for as long as possible! Remember- it is a glue lake, so it could take some time! Don't try to hang it before the glue is dry, or the hearts will just slide off!

Squirrel feeders

Today we noticed that the squirrels outside are starting to gather things for the winter. So, I thought we should help them with some squirrel feeders.

First I collected some materials that we would need. I got some pop bottles (we used the 1L ones), cleaned them, cut the tops off and some holes in the sides. Then I cut up some papers for the kids to glue onto it, and collected some Halloween/Fall stickers as well. You will also need glue, a string- to hang the feeder from the tree, and some peanuts.

 First I had the kids decorate the outside with the paper.

 Then we tied the string on and added some stickers.

 And then we added the peanuts.

 And now they are ready to hang in the tree outside for the hungry squirrels.

While we were making these we were talking about hibernation, what other things squirrels eat, and where they live! The kids can't wait to see the squirrels come and get the peanuts!

You can also make this a bird feeder, you could even add popsicle sticks, and use bird seed!

a star filled sky

Today we were playing with glitter glue. So, we decided to make a star filled sky. And there is no better place to watch the stars then on a camping trip.

I cut out shapes that you would see on a camping trip- triangle trees and tent, rectangle tree trunks, circle moon, stars, and I did do tear drops to put together for a fire- but we forgot to use them! Then I got the kids all black paper, glue, and glitter glue (to spread it around more we used a paint brush!)


The kids had a great time gluing their shapes on the paper to make a camp scene. With the younger ones, you can put glue all over the page and let them put the pieces on themselves!


Then have them squirt the glitter glue on (or if you are brave, apply the real glitter). After putting globs of glitter glue on, the kids spread it around with the paint brush!


After everything dries, you are left with a beautiful night sky to star gaze!
